Luna Hotel Baglioni

Just around the corner from San Marco Square on the street leading to world-famous Harry's Bar, this marbled palace is said to be Venice's oldest hotel, converted from a convent in the 1200s. It's been on the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List on two occasions.

Sumptuous rooms look out onto various scenes of romantic Venetian life; those on the eastern side have small balustraded balconies overlooking the side canal. Decor is thoroughly traditional; fabric-covered walls surround small sitting areas with period armchairs; chandeliers dominate the ceiling; and bathrooms are made of Italian marble. Some rooms have a Jacuzzi.

Breakfast is taken in the elegant second-floor ‘Salone Marco Polo' full of splendid 18th century frescoes. Dinner is always an occasion at the intimate Canova Restaurant, which has won several prestigious awards for its regional specialties and traditional Italian cooking. Perfect for post-shopping and sightseeing cocktails, Café Baglioni sits alongside a little canal, with a beautiful view of Reali Gardens. The famous beaches of Venice Lido are easy to get to, and a private landing dock makes boat or gondola travel to the rest of the city and its islands an effortlessly stylish affair. A personal shopper can be arranged on request.
