BOSTON

Described as the most European city in the US, only in Boston will you find redbrick townhouses, lush public gardens and historic landmarks wedged between Italian groceries and world-famous universities.

BOSTON

Dining

Boston is best known for its typical Yankee fare. For a critically acclaimed, all-American meal, try Salts and Henrietta's Table at the Charles Hotel, both in Cambridge. The best spot for cocktails is Top of the Hub's on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Tower, which offers a panorama of the entire eastern Massachusetts area.

Culture

In a city with so many exclusive universities, culture is a given; Harvard alone has six museums. The Museum of Fine Arts, the New England Aquarium, the John F Kennedy Library and Museum, the observatory on the 60th floor of the John Hancock Building, and the Freedom Trail are all highly recommended.

Shopping

The well-heeled gather at Armani and Versace on Newbury Street, and at Barney's and Gucci in Copley Plaza. Scouring for souvenirs is best done at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

Getting around

With its urban heritage paths and lots of green bits, Boston is made for walking. The subway (America's first) is also good. A CityPass is a single ticket allowing nine days of entry into Boston's landmarks.
